What are your session rates and do you accept insurance?

Accepted Answer

Individual therapy sessions are $150 and couples therapy sessions are $250. I accept most major insurance plans for individual therapy, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare/Optum, and several others, including some Medicare plans. Couples therapy is private pay only and is not billed through insurance. Insurance companies typically require a mental health diagnosis and treatment focused on one identified client rather than the relationship itself. Because couples therapy focuses on the relationship dynamic, communication, attachment patterns, and relational healing, I do not bill insurance for couples sessions. A limited number of equitable sliding scale appointments may also be available.

Do you offer telehealth sessions or only in-person?

I provide therapy services exclusively in Memphis, Tennessee, with both in-person and telehealth options available for Tennessee residents. We can discuss together whether in-person or virtual therapy would best support your needs, schedule, and comfort level.

What is Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy and how does it help?

Accepted Answer

Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy recognizes that we all have different "parts" within us — the achiever, the anxious part, the protector, the caretaker, the perfectionist, or the wounded part carrying pain from past experiences. Rather than judging those parts, IFS helps you understand how they developed to protect you and how they may now contribute to anxiety, burnout, perfectionism, emotional overwhelm, or relationship struggles. As the only Black Internal Family Systems (IFS) Level 1 trained clinician in Memphis, I bring both professional training and cultural understanding into this work.

Do you specialize in working with high achievers and professionals?

Yes. My practice specializes in working with Black professionals, high achievers, couples, women, femmes, trans, non-binary, and other historically marginalized clients navigating anxiety, perfectionism, burnout, trauma, imposter syndrome, survivor's guilt, relationship stress, and family pressure. I understand the unique emotional weight that can come with being first-generation successful, code switching, over-functioning, and constantly feeling pressure to hold everything together.

What can I expect in our first session?

Our first session is a supportive space to explore what brought you to therapy, the patterns you may want to shift, and the goals you have for healing and growth. You do not need to have everything figured out before starting therapy. Together, we begin unpacking the survival strategies, relationship patterns, stressors, and emotional experiences that may be contributing to anxiety, burnout, overwhelm, or disconnection. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and centered on helping you feel seen, supported, and emotionally safe.

How do you approach couples therapy?

I approach couples therapy through an attachment-based, trauma-informed, and family systems lens. Together, we explore how each partner's experiences, protective patterns, communication styles, and emotional needs impact the relationship dynamic. Couples therapy focuses on improving communication, rebuilding emotional connection, strengthening boundaries, navigating conflict more effectively, and creating healthier relational patterns together. Couples sessions are 60 minutes and are offered at a private pay rate of $250 per session. Insurance is not accepted for couples therapy because treatment is focused on the relationship rather than one identified mental health diagnosis.
